Dear Future Little...

Dear future little one:
I am so excited that you are part of this sisterhood (genuinely, I am pumped). Because the women that’ll surround you for the next 3.5 years will undoubtedly fill your life with laughter, support, goofiness, and love. They’ve helped to strengthen and transform me into someone I would not have recognized on Bid Day 2016. Everyday they acknowledge and appreciate how capable I am, because self love is difficult to practice when times get tough. My sisters have selflessly carried me through some of the lowest points in my life, because that’s what sisters do.
 
Now it’s my turn to pass on what I’ve learned…to you!
 
The first years at college are spent discovering who you are academically, socially, and as a woman. Through trial and error, you’ll make strides towards becoming the best version of yourself… but it takes time. And hurdles are bound to meet your path. You’ll likely experience heartbreak, rejection, deception, and stress -the cool part is that you’ll never be alone. I’ll be here to remind you of what you deserve when a boy doesn’t treat you right. I’ll kindly tell you when I disagree with your actions because I want you to live life intensely, fully, and -most important- happily. I hope that when your heart feels broken, or a friend hurts your feelings- you’ll come to me and cry. And that when you’re deliriously happy- we can sit together and laugh.
 
I hope you foster relationships with other juniors and senior Alpha Chis too. Because while I love my big, I am lucky to have a plethora of older women who also serve as big sisters, mother figures, and guideposts.  As a freshman, never shy away from befriending upperclassmen because age should never prevent a mutually beneficial friendship. We all have so much to learn from each other.

Throughout these next few years at Alpha Chi and Butler, we’ll grow alongside one another, and I’ll guide you in the best way I know how; through loyalty, kindness, and love. You are in for a very special few years, and I can’t wait to cheer you on the whole way.
